Adequate for the price
For the average user that does not have a complicated return, the standard version of turbotax works sufficiently to get your taxes done in a relatively short amount of time.
When completing a joint return, it was unclear on several pages whose information was being asked for. It would be nice to have a clear identifier always present in the header for example. Most pages did indicate whose information was needed, but, again, several did not.
The interview process was very efficient the way it is constructed. Extraneous information to your circumstance is kept hidden to keep the interface cleaner and easier to navigate.
Mouse users might be annoyed that each time a new page loads, the focus is NOT on the main page - meaning, if you try to scroll down the page using a mouse wheel, nothing happens until you actually click on the page.
I found even for the most simplistic of returns, the software always popped up the suggest that I should upgrade to the next level of TurboTax.
There should be clear requirements noted that the software MUST be run under an administrator level ID (ie: normal, non-admin users cannot run the software even after an Admin level user has installed it).
Overall - the value of the product is worth it.

First Time User
I am a first time user using the Turbo Tax Standard software. This is also the first time I have completed my tax return Vs using a independent taxation service. At first I found this program quite overwhelming but once i used the self help and guidance from a taxation specialist, I found it easier to stick handle my way through all the forms and understand all the data required to process my return and my wife's. I will feel much more comfortable next yr when I use this taxation software to process our 2019 return. Will offer my blessings to others if asked about Turbo Tax Software.

When going thru the review process the program asked if I wanted to use the optimizer for my wife's pension to be split with me as I do not receive any pension. I did use it and it showed the optimum amount to split. I was not totally sure about this so I looked up tax help and CRA to discover Can. Pension is not eligible to split. Why would the program let me go thru this waste of time when it knows CPP is not allowed to be split.

Does not import info from previous year
1. It used to be that the easy steps choice would import the information, like name, sin, dependants from the previous year. Not anymore - I had to type all that info.
2. Prints a lot of useless Ontario taxes forms(about 25 pages of nothing), although the print option says federal tax. At least give us a warning that is going to be 33 pages with the last 5 really usefull.

Great Tool for Simple Submission
Taxes have a lot of data, forms, and numerous ways to go wrong. TurboTax has simplified that for years. While their examples could use work (or are nonexistent) it's still an amazingly streamlined tool and I would highly recommend its use for personal Income Tax submission.

Great but with Flaw

Easy to file
Sometimes you have to understand some regulations beforehand because it might happen that entering plain information for couples duplicates important information such as property tax or rent. CRA would let you know afterwards, of course.

Good but needs updating
Good for getting all the numbers in the correct lines. Easy Step is good but must have everything ready. Needs to have a built in calculator for some lines. T1135 form needs more lines. Unable to use TurboTax for this and had to file manually. T5013 input lines needs updating. Medical info for dependant over 18 is not easily explained on how to enter.

If the software detects a change of personal information that cannot be submitted as part of the filing, it does not provide any indication about what fields were identified.
One must drill down to the T1 form and review the information; thankfully it appears that the information change detected is in green.

As a do-it-yourselfer, I found Turbo Tax to be indispensable. Could have used more clarity around the T1032 process, but otherwise really could not imagine doing my return without Turbo Tax. Have been using this software for 20 years, and plan to keep on doing so well into the future.

Gets me through my taxes
Although I know there are 'free' software programs out there - if you try them you will see that you need to know how to fill in taxes already to use them. With Turbo Tax you get this 'Easy' feature that quizzes you (just like a tax expert would do live) to walk you through it. Its helped me and my friends to successfully complete our taxes for years.

Loss Worksheet
The Loss Worksheet, showing accumulated capital losses from previous years is almost impossible to find. When you use the search function inputting "Capital Gains & Losses" this form does not come up! Essential for applying previous year's capital losses to offset any capital gains, it is astounding that TurboTax makes it so difficult to find.

Good program
I understand the program is trying to be thorough but why does it shove Principal Residence and TOSI down our throats, including printing all the pages if you just choose the default save for Federal Return? The questions were asked and answered. Don't waste my time and my paper. I had to select Individual Forms to save and print for all the people I prepared taxes for. I saved pdf to see what it included, then made my list of what was needed and reprinted Individual Forms, which was usually half of what it included.
