Turbo tax does the job
I found Turbo Tax easy to use, although if you don't understand some of the tax terminology it may not be as intuitive. I find the software a bit pricey and may a consider cheaper option next year.

Simple Tax Software
I have been using this software ever since I started doing my own taxes..back when it was Quicktax. I have also used the Home and Business version in the past. Allows me to do the tax returns for me and my kids. The Easy Step method is perfect for me as we do not have complicated returns but with all the questions, I imagine that it would handle more complex ones just as easy.
Downsides...
Sometimes I do find the explanations (when you click on a highlighted word) a bit vague but I can usually find a clearer explanation online.
I also notice that sometimes fields do not refresh properly. For example, this years return said that I had donations to carry forward but when I checked my previous return, I did not. I went to delete that checked box to indicate that I did not have an amt to carry forward but the optimizer still showed that I had an amount to carry over. I had to go into the forms to find the line item and delete it from there.
Lastly, I noticed that some information was not carried over correctly and did not match up with my Notice of Assessment. For example, it was pulling over an amount for the HBP from years ago. Had to go into the forms to correct.

TurboTax 2018 Mojo
This is improved from last year as it allows percentage splits for forms that were not available previously. Definitely a bonus.
I would like to see the ability to split charitable donations between spouses and to allow medical expenses to be applied to the spouse for whom it was purchased.

Good product for my situation
Feel confident using this product but the taxes I have used this software for are not complicated tax situations. Have used for several years now. Saves on doing all the calculations long hand. Cannot speak to the issue of using it for more complicated scenarios.

Three deficiencies
I encountered 3 problems with Turbotax this year,
firstly, When accessing CRA, if the download fails for any reason, Turbotax freezes. The only solution is to quit without saving. There needs to be a way to cancel the CRA connection.
secondly, It would be nice to have a way to load gain-loss statements from an Excel Spreadsheet, and
Thirdly, there should be a percentage shared box on the T5013 entry module.

Easier than on-line
I tried to use the on-line Turbotax paid service but was not successful because the program hung up after filling the profile. This CD was very smooth and seemed thorough.

Easy to use, some bugs
After filing the federal return and receiving a confirmation, there is the option to see the Notice of Assessment by logging in to the CRA My Account site. If you click on the link, but then choose not to log into the site, Turbo Tax hangs and becomes unresponsive. I needed to kill the program and re-launch it. Once relaunched, it showed that my federal return had not been filed, even though after the initial attempt, I had received a confirmation number. The software is buggy. There should be an option to cancel if the user does not choose to log into the CRA account. Perhaps you should spawn a separate thread to wait for the response to the account login and keep the main thread free to accept the users cancel action. This way the main thread can can interrupt the waiting thread and the program will not hang.
After filing the Quebec return and receiving the confirmation, instead of being brought back to the list of returns left to file (as was the case after filing the federal return), it landed on the page to save a copy of the returns. This an lead to confusion and some users may forget that they still have returns to file. It would be nice if the behaviour was the same as when completing the federal return.
Overall, easy to use application.

I would like to advise that when I am going from Print for my records to Print to send to CRA, the program does not go to Print to
send to CRA correctly. I find I have to return to the very beginning and then go to print/review before the program will show the Print copy to send to CRA.

It is not clear as to what to do after the info is entered on the forms. i.e. what steps are required to submit to CRA are not really clear.
I am sure that when you work with the program all the time it would be easy however for us once a year type people it is not clear.

few problems
I found that after completing my return, although I said only to print forms that were used it printed a lot of empty pages. Also after finishing my return when it said do you want to go to another return it would not go back to the start, I had to close intuit and reenter to do another return,. And after saying submit my return, it kept coming back and asking if I would like to submit my return

FORMS are faster option
Turbo Tax could do better job at Identifying spouse when it comes to various Schedules selecting. I found myself having to go back a then redo Donations and RRSP pages because there was NO swap or flip to the Spouse's return option when I input data forgetting to click the right name.

Not a bad product but hate the AI voice that goes on and on when you call the support line...just give me a human voice right off the bat AND what language I want to communicate in at the get go so I dont have to listen to a language I do not understand!

needs revision for professionals
Following your easy way I found it was complicated as a professional. you need to put selection for professionals up front so we do not need to go through home business data, etc. This was confusing for me and cost me much extra time!!!!!! Hank

Slick, simple, and extensive
Suited our needs well, simplified everything to make it quicker to finish. The only complaint is that it asked for some of the same info in two different locations while setting up the profiles (Professional and union dues especially), which made it confusing as to where to put the proper information. But it's the best experience I've had over the years, so I'm going to stick with it year after year so I get used to it which will make things go faster
