Good Software but...
What is with the incessant nag screen asking you to register? Stop it already. I would register if it were not for the convoluted way one has to opt out of promotional e-mails.

Essential but Frustrating
Frustrating because everything is so tiny that I have to practically stick my head into the screen to read it!!
Also frustrating when it comes to correcting an error......almost impossible to do.
The worst problem, that took the longest to try to resolve(never did) was getting our names right. I forgot and this year got sucked in again by the block that asks for your initial, Then tried to insert our middle names on a later screen. Make up your minds and only ask for one or the other!! In the end, the software didn't like my wife's name but was satisfied with mine.

Have used it for over 15 years
I feel that the program is becoming harder to follow for the average person with next to no working accounting knowledge. Many questions that are totally unnecessary such as the section of whether or not you have sold (disposed) of your principal residence. Obviously if you purchased your prinicipal residence 3-5 years prior, why is it anyone's business what you paid for it and how much you sold it for. Only reason I completed it was because I was not able to complete my return paperwise . Otherwise I would have printed and taken directly to the CRA Office myself and gave them my feedback on the above situation,

My only problem was with the easy navigator and finding how to work through it. Took a while and I got frustrated but finally made it.

very helpful
The Auto-Fill was useful, but I had to go through it and check carefully, and add parts that had not been filled in. Otherwise, the ste-by-step procedure was easy to follow.

Good but Confusing
It gets easier with multiple uses doing volunteer work. Language and sentence structure still leaves one wondering about English literature instruction in our schools.

Relieved
Initially, had trouble installing using CD so went to download off the site and that worked. Required some support - Clyde, who was just great and helped me resolve a problem concerning one of my receipts.
I was slower than I anticipated but that was due to me being overly cautious.
I will definitely purchase Turbotax next year.

The download version does not split T5008 income with your spouse. THis causes quite a bit of extra work for me. Fix that and I will give you a 5....

Good Product
The product is good and helpful for basic income tax however a little confusing in the beginning when completing 2 (married couple) as you are not sure if the information is for both or an individual, you just need to work your way through the screens until it is verified..

Great value for the money
Easy Step continues to be a wonderful method to calculate taxes. I have Parkinsons disease, and this was the first year that I had several medical expenses to enter. However, Easy Step made it extremely easy . It allows you to group them any way you want so it's a lot more sensible than just listing them.

Pretty good with minor frustration at times.
Improvement needed.
Most frustrated with T1135 part B Cat 7. It only has three rows. You are in trouble if you use more than one stock security firm and each has more than one foreign country in your portfolio. There are no clear hint that CRA might be happy with the total of each country and might not be too upset if you group two or more brokers in a single row.

Year after year using Turbo Tax to prepare
my Families taxes, I found this year difficult to exit program or start a new return.

CRA bugs
I was glad to be able to download from CRa and upload, but a couple of times it crashed and would not let me log in. On one it did not ever download my CRA notice of Assessement, but I was able to log on to CRA to see it.

Easy and helpful
My brother and I reviewed the old method we used for many years for completing our taxes - sheets of paper, pencil, erasers - and literally days of working on the forms. Wonderful to have this resource - so much easier.

Good but
I have use this software for years. usually very good. This year some of the links wouldn't work. The Industry code link for example. Why not have a list of codes right in the program. Had to google it and hopefully found the right code. Not impressed.

Fairly Painless
Went well but for one issue with manual entry. It didn't automatically transfer one item from my T4 to the necessary line item in the forms.
For comparisons sake I tried the Autofill from CRA for my information slips and it caught the oversight.
Double check your line items if your using manual entry with your info slips.

The programme bought of a CD would not access Intuit for updates; I had to do it manually every time I opened the programme. That is a real pain and should be changed for the next issue.

Return "Errors"
I had completed my return and ran it through your Review procedure. As usual the Warnings and Possible Savings were totally inapplicable to my return. The Errors section indicated that I had omitted to specify that gains/losses reported on Schedule 3 were "Capital Gains" and that I must fix this. It presented data entry forms for each transaction that I had already transcribed from my T5008 form directly to Schedule 3, with a line on which to make this "fix". I checked off "Capital Gains" as instructed even though CRA does not request such an entry with gain/loss info. When done I found that TurboTax had replicated my disposition proceeds entries sabotaging my otherwise correct return. It took considerable time to figure out how to correct this.
This begs the question, has Intuit not paid attention to that old maxim, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Turbo tax program challenges
Only negative comment is that there are too many unnecessary blank forms that print when printing for own file. Example, "Reconciliation of 2017 business income" - 4 pages, "Statement of business or Professional activities" - 8 pages, "Principal residence worksheet" 1 page, for a person renting. Printing 13 pages of irrelevant forms is a huge WASTE.
Also, not easy to enter some information relating to deductions for foreign tax credits, foreign exempt pension income, Ontario renter's grant, to name a few. Turbo tax program not easy enough for general public. Only user friendly for tax professional.

there's a first time for everything
This is the first year I have had any trouble filling out taxes. It may or may not have been my fault. I had trouble coordinating my mom's tax return with my own as far as claiming her as a dependent not living with me. This is the 2nd time I have filed with her not living with me. Other years she lived with me and I had no problems. Like I said it might have been me not program. I do have a friend that is a pro but don't like to bother her she's busy and uses the pro version which is different. I'll be back next year, older but wiser.

Lots of Frustration
to begin with I had misplaced my ID key and it was approx. 3 hours later when I was finally connected to a "real" person who gave me a new key number.
I found when I printed off paper copy for my records I got a lot of inapplicable pages. On NetFile Worksheet I live in Saskatchewan, I certainly don't need 5 extra sheets about how to file in Quebec. PERHAPS these could be broke down into two separate forms for another year.
