Good Product Easy to use

Good Programme
Used the Standard Version. Great for bringing in information from previous years tax forms and for connecting to the CRA site for downloading T4, etc. info. Relatively easy to complete the form with information from slips, etc. Would recommend for quick completion of tax returns. Had a small glitch in trying to update the programme. After the first update, had to download manually and reinstall new changes the next two times but after doing so the programme functioned fine in each instance.

Medical Excpense
I did not use my Medical Expenses last year as I thought it would be more advantage to combine them with this year's return. Turbo Tax shows "Unclaimed 2017 Medical Expenses". This is very misleading as I was informed by CRA that I can claim only a 12 month period ending in 2018. This cost my Wife and I approximately a $600.00 refund. Turbo Tax, you need to specify this! You also owe us $600.00.

Simple for a complex task
I use TurboTax because it is easy to follow through the steps. However, I find it difficult to understand eligibility for certain benefits and credits, and what is needed in order to verify eligibility. I realize taxes are complex with complex rules, but feel it could be made a little easier to understand.

top menu bar hard to read
One recommendation i could offer... The menu bar across the top while in the program is very hard to read ....words below each icon are small and blue/grayish. These menu choices need to be crisp contrast and easy to read as we rely on them constantly to move about the program. The option to change the size of text does not help as it only applies to the tax form screen itself.

Relatively user friendly
Relatively easy to use, but it's better(and more accurate) if you have all your info on medical deductions, charity etc on a spreadsheet first. Calculators don't cut it.
Then you can lump your deductions together by categories like "Prescriptions". Everything else ends up in "Other". It would be useful to have categories include: Dental, Vision Care, Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Acupuncture etc, since most often you would be paying different vendors for services.
I used this version and the online version but could never get the refund to work out the same. At least this version let's you print a copy of the actual return before you netfile. It seems more cumbersome than the online version.

Good product
I have used Turbo Tax for a few years now,buy am very disappointed with this years standard product. I have always used the netfile with the exception of this years program because it's not included. Very disappointed.

Some problems
For some reason this year you cannot print off your CRA net file confirmation number and on that page when you hit print you get your entire tax return printed but no net file confirmation number. Also printed off forms and schedules that did not apply even though I did select the box that said not to print those.

support was very good but product has flaws.

Easy with TurboTax
Trouble installing the CD this Year.
Not enough space on lines for entering information, especially business pages.. looks like lots of space but very limited characters can be entered. Otherwise, most glitches fixed.

good stuff
The price still seems high compared to other tax s/w and when considering the bulk of the coding was done long time ago.
A big improvement is on submitting directly to CRA. Requires much less input by user.
Still not certain that the "optimisation" tools can prove accurate when its possible for CRA to make adjustments to some inputs.

wasted paper in printing
when printing for your own records, I found that even though I checked the box for not splitting pension income, the print out involved about 6 pages I didn't need printed. waste of paper and ink

Good but watch misleading forms for childcare
Program works well but be aware of misleading wording for the childcare forms and property taxes. Property taxes: If you and your spouse live in same house it's not clear how to enter the number of months and amount of taxes to claim for each or both. For childcare forms beware if you enter the total you paid for childcare and then you enter the number of weeks that child was at sleepaway camp, the program assumes the total paid is for those single weeks of sleepaway camp and severely restricts (near eliminates) your deductions. Don't try to call them to figure this out either, you'll end up with a US phone number and little to no support of the product.
