taxes made easy
my first time doing my taxes in years and turbo made it much easier than i remember it was doing it by hand. Many helpful pop ups and hints to help you along the way. Looks so professional!

Excellent Tax Prep Software...But
Great Tax software but the help section needs to be a little more intuitive to find the info in one location instead of multiple links.
Also I wish that the software would give you the option to Save All versions of the Returns on one screen, regardless of filing method.
Example:
CRA Condensed .pdf
Full Return "Copy" .pdf
Turbo Tax Return file .tt
"Save All versions" button
This years version (2017) has become more difficult to find, access and save the Condensed version of the return.
I like to be thorough and have all versions backed up, just in case.
Regardless of the above, this is a good reliable product that I use year after year.

Autofill
Don't think it's a TurboTax issue but tried autofill and ended up deleting form and doing it manually. A T5008 showed up with incomplete info and the T3's and T5's didn't match paper copies.

Turbotax standard.
It didn,t ask to input wife's income. When I printed wife's it printed mine again. Very pricey for a retiree less than 30000 income.

Watch Visa charges
Easy to use program but watch your credit card because they charge you for next years program and do not send the access code. You could miss this is not careful.

Incorrect information
Turbo Tax mentions that the CRA will be no longer sending out refund cheques by mail as of April 2016. This is incorrect, contacted CRA and they verified that cheques continue to be send by mail. This needs to be clarified as it is confusing for someone who has no direct deposit set up and is wanting a cheque by mail.

A change I would suggest is to add a field on the Summary window that adds together the two columns so the total family owing or refund is immediately displayed. This would be handy to see the advantage by turning split pension on or off as well as other times.

Isues
I experienced much confusion working through the simplified process. Eventually I was guided by "Paul" who assisted me with correcting my errors using the "forms". However Paul cost me $50:00.

Used this software in excess of 25 years
This year is the first year I used the medical expense feature of the tax code as the expenses were large. I was pressed for time as I only had hours left to Netfile. I had different types of medical expenses and wanted to add different dates for same, as asked for by the form. It kept kicking me out and I could for the life of me not enter the next expense. the problem was solved as I finally figured out that the dates need to be in the date RANGE, entered a couple of lines earlier but a considerable time was spent reasoning this out. Some better descriptions should be given for this section, because it sure isn't intuitive! As I was going through NETfile, there are some 'helpful' statements in there, which uses English in a contorted way, to be sure one doesn't understand what is being meant. I can't be too specific, because I have to remember where the difficulties were as I went through it. In my case, I also didn't have time and had to make a submission and couldn't spend much time trying to understand new concepts, requiring more work, perhaps. One thing I was hoping is the aspect of union, or professional dues. The question is always asked whether this expense is subject to HST, etc. Well, in my case, the amount I submitted did include it; should I only report the mount without it?The use of the words "subject to" leaves me wondering. I had hoped that at least Turbo Tax would word it differently to throw light on the intended meaning. I still do not understand the reason for the question and what the question itself means.

Some issues
2 issues:
- the optimization for medical receipts does the correct calculation but does not recommend the correct individual based on the calculation. It chooses the individual with the lowest income by default.
- an error wrt CPP number of months for person 1 was identified but it took me to person 2 to fix the error. I had to go back and step thru the process to correct the error.

prints too many farm forms
Why does it print the agristability form when we did not use it? Also the principle residence form when we have not sold our home? Otherwise the program is easy to use, not enough info in helps sometimes. At least it did not print 4 farm forms as it did last year, only 2.

Suggestion
Help should contain all government forms that could possibly be required, and the government should clearly name all their forms and there relevance so that time is not wasted on searches that often do not help but cause more confusion?

have been a turbotax used for a long time
I find turbo tax simple to use, I do remember in the old tax when it was in its fledgling stages and revenue Canada was difficult in dealing with, as this was a new way to do your return the easy way. I grew with the pain and now there we are some twenty years later, having a great product. And the product started in Canada

Glitch
I used this program to prepare five tax submissions for family members. Unfortunately with the last one that I completed the program glitched and I lost a significant amount of changes that I had made. This required considerable additional work to resubmit those changes. For the four previous tax submissions the program worked well.

Simple enough
I am not great with numbers or anything to do with taxes, however I have used Turbo Tax the last couple of years and I have found it easier than the alternative. Having been recently married with a newborn, I found those sections and changes easy to maneuver within the Turbo Tax program.
