Some software shortcomings
I like using TurboTax but this year I found a couple of annoying issues. The pdf and print functions for CRA copies did not work at all. I was going to submit a file with an override so had to print. I couldn't so changed the file back so I could netfile. Also found that the charitable optimizer should recalculate when changing claimant instead of going to the next page for you to enter an amount.

System could be improved in the medical section. Drop down menu for options such as prescriptions, dental etc. to minimize amount of input. With over 50 entries, lots of unnecessary typing.

Decent Standard Product
Standard TurboTax package handles average Canadian taxpayer quite well.
I am unclear why they suggest using Premier just because a taxpayer has a T5 representing investment income as Schedule 3 is quite easy to fill out in the forms section and paying twice the Standard Price for the Premier edition is a waste of money for taxpayers with straight forward investment income for which they receive T5 or T3 slips from the investment company.

Long time Turbo Tax user
Easy to move around the T1 Returns and back and forth between spouses. Comparative data between spouses and between years is chronological and easy to follow...straight forward.

consistently useful
I have used TurboTax and its predecessor for some years, and it remains simple and straightforward, most of the time. Its explanatory notes are generally helpful.

First time user.
This is a slick product. However, I did not find a way to link 2 returns. In another product I used last year, I could prepare both returns at the same time and the product automatically transferred amounts from one to the other when it was advantageous to do so.
TurboTax 2017 did not do that for me. I am, therefore,probably going to use a tax service next year. Sad,

Easy software to use, have been using for a couple of years. Only issue is annoying question of signing up for online access for assessment with CRA. MUST pick Yes or No to signing up. Wheres the button to click for 'already signed up'?

keep on working on downloading slips
Downloading slips is good; saves lots of time; not sure why Turbo tax wants to know source of interest income, when it does not seem to say to need to specify on the tax for for bank, bond or mortgage. T5008 still needs work. These forms downloaded, but were clumsy to work with. Ended up deleting them all and working Schedule 3 and SUPP 3 instead.

FIRST TIME USER
I had no trouble doing my basic personal tax with the software.
I had a terrible time doing my daughters who had Meals as Employment expenses and the Graduation Retention Deduction.
The software wouldn't let me fill in the form for it and override wouldn't work so I had to print the forms and submit them manually to CRA.

Help Menu
I would like to see the Help Menu to be easier to read the answers it provides. Its very vague at times. Also, I like to see when I'm on a specific line, form and/or bookmark the Help Menu provide help on the topic I've selected. I had to search manually by entering the topic and click on links to get my answer, or call CRA for my answer.

Optimizers Bug ?
Optimizers for Medical and Charity should be easier to switch allocation between spouses. Looks like program uses interview to assign designated spouse, as I can see no difference within Optimizer itself. Pain to go back to Interview.

Rate this a 4 out of 5. Easy to use, review, save and print. Have used for several years. The only issue I have is the inability to be able to print some of the screens while working on this. The software doesn't allow this. I'd like a copy of some of these screens to save with my Income Tax records.

Great Product Turned Annoying
I've been using Turbotax (or its predecessors) for probably 10 years, but this year it seems to have turned annoying and frustrating. Particularly the Review section, which mentioned Optimizers but it took me forever to find them, and I couldn't figure out how to get out of the Review without shutting down the program and starting again. Too many Tips and Warnings which clearly did NOT apply, and clicking Fix did not seem to go to the right place to really view and fix them. So I hope next year the program will not be so STUPID, because I otherwise find it fast, convenient, and a reliable way to calculate and file my taxes, and will continue to use it as I know of no better alternative.
