Needs an update
The input information for the T5008 slips should have the same capability as the entry for the T3 wherein you can identify the % to be allocated to your spouse and the system automatically enters the info on your spouse's return. Very time consuming to have to calculate & reenter a % of the capital gains allocated to your spouse.

Not Bad
Probably better than title suggests, because I haven't used Turbo Tax for years. This year, I fired my accountant, so had to learn the software again. Next year should be easier.

Create New Return?
Great and very user friendly but having trouble creating the next return. It keeps bouncing me back to file and it's been filed and accepted and a confirmation # was given. Still can't get a new return started. I've had to go out and come back in :(

Quite Good
1. Basic information from the previous year did not carry forward to the 2017 return, which was not the case when filing previous returns.
2. Experienced a few printing problems. Program and printer would not easily connect. Otherwise the program worked well.

Easy to Use, But Still Some Issues
It's pretty helpful software. My husband and I were filing jointly for the first time this year, so I knew I needed a bit of help preparing our returns. It was, for the most part, really simple to use/figure out. HOWEVER, and I've said this EVERY YEAR the last 4 years... being able to input RRSP/Pension Plan contributions NEEDS to be SIMPLIFIED! Every time I do a return, I wind up having to go back and figure out how/where I put it in, since it never automatically takes you to the screen like it does for seemingly everything else. This is really the only issue I have with it (hence getting 4 out of 5 stars).

Good but
Like the program but for some reason when printing the CRA version, I had to re-insert the program disk and it was fiddly. Not sure why this happens as printing my own copy is not a problem in this fashion. Hope this can be fixed next year.

Good product
Used this product for many years. I use the T slips and forms method rather than the interview.
The capital gains, RRSP, and Charitable donation carry forward unused portions can be complicated. The software is not much help there. You have to know what to do and it is difficult the first few times around. Make notes because it is a whole year before you have to do it again and you forget.

Step by Step is cumbersome
The Step by Step method asks complicated questions for the novice. You learn to ignore them and wade through, or you get bogged down. Sometimes it seems you are going around in circles. And, of course, there are questions designed to sell you more product. This is annoying when you are trying to simply do your taxes quickly. But otherwise it works and accomplishes the job. Netfiling works well.

Problem with Capital gains and loss entry
There is a problem getting to the supplementary pages for entering capital gains and losses. The directions to get to the page needs to be explained in a more accurate way. I spent over an hour trying to find the correct supplementary page. The current directions indicate going to "See form T1170 See Supp.Schedule : Continue on next page" The correct form is S3 Supp[. Schedule.
Please make it easier to find the correct page for adding in additional capital gains and losses. THANKS

The software and the Easy Step option make doing your taxes easy, but there are definitely areas where the software is incorrect. For example it will automatically default the Health Claims to the lower income, even if, in our case, that would result in paying higher combined taxes. Your handling of the T5008 form is terrible for people with joint accounts as does not allow you to specify your individual percentages between husband and wife, and defaults to Investment Income, when the sale of mutual Funds is Capital Gains. You need to totally review how your software, and forms handle joint accounts for the T5008, as I found that a major frustration.

My biggest dislike is when you print your return "Duplicate Do not send by mail" is printed right across some of the line amounts which makes it impossible to read the figures.
As well, why on investments when you enter the country in Box 27 does turbo tax not convert to Canadian Dollars?

Gets the Job done
So far I've found this program handy over numerous years. It might not do the more complex dance, but if you're doing that kind of tax return that's what an accountant is for. This will do the job for the average Canadian.

Possible confusion. No Mac version
Generally good design, but a few weak details.
I enter as much as possible in the T-slips box, then go through complete EasyStep, which usually shows data already entered. This was not so for charitable donations, and I almost duplicated all the entries.
My main computer is now a Mac, so continuing to use TurboTax is now more awkward.

Great to see the information regarding Trillium Benefits. Only confusion is I can't seem to close a return after it is submitted. It seems to be still open and I can't exit out of the application - sends me into a loop to print/save the return...

GOOD
FORMS VERSION IS EASY TO USE.
MUST KNOW WHAT YOU DOCUMENTS YOU NEED, AND HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE TAX PROCESS.
USING IT FOR MANY YEARS, EVEN PRIOR TO TURBO-TAX (INTUIT).

Makes tax time easier
