disappointed
I have used Turbo Tax for many years. This is the first time that I have run into any troubles. I have not been able to save my tax files easily like every other year. When I tell it to save it says it can not save to the only choice of file that is given on the site. What's with that???

Good Tax Program but I believe it needs some fine tuning. for example it takes you back in a loop when you are trying to close off the program after Netfiling. It brings you back to Netfile which you already completed.

The question about automatic deposit of tax refund was confusing. The question should be divided into separate questions.
1) setting up automatic deposit
2) changing automatic deposit information
3) do not want to use automatic deposit
4) want to use automatic deposit AND information has not changed since filing last income tax return.

I have used Turbo Tax for several years and I am pleased with product. However the only disappointment I have is this year the price went up $5. I hope this does not become a trend. I always thought it was good value. If product goes up in price next year I will consider other options.

Great, but fewer suggestions than last year
This software has made it very easy for someone with no financial background to file their taxes. I did notice that compared to last year's version there seem to be fewer suggestions for possible deductions. While the walkthrough is very helpful, sometimes you might not realise that certain expenses are deductible.

Just one more thing
I really do think that there is utility required that will allow a person to generate a PDF of a prior year return. I discovered I was missing some from prior years, and when I went to generate a PDF discovered that I would actually need the TurboTax software for that specific year installed on my computer. Of course I don't have any of that since I am on a new computer.

Need income tax optimizer
It would nice to get an RRSP optimizer different from the one that is currently integrated.
I was trying to reduce my RRSP this year and claim in 2018 to increase my refund (given that I would be in a higher tax bracket).
A calculator that can help with that would be nice.

Desktop Tax Accountant
I have used Turbo Tax for 4 years now, and am quite happy with it. I do a spreadsheet first and then check to see what differences there are and why. My main complaint is not being able to go back and change something without having to answer all the subsequent questions again and again even though they were not impacted by the change(s).

Needs Some Fixes
Installment payments worksheet transfer is "glitchy". Sometime is shows up but not always. Had to exit and come back in. As well the 2017 Standard version had challenges with product registration and I ended up having to update S/W along with entering & re-entering contact details several times over course of use. I've used Turbo-Tax and its predecessor for 10+ years without these kind of errors. Quality of testing has slipped IMHO...

Tslip detailed explanation needed
found it confusing as you enter % amount on Tslip worksheet but it doesn't create a Tslip worksheet for spouse. It correctly allocates the remaining % to the form. Would help user if this was more clearly identified.

One major problem
I filed returns for my wife and myself. I successfully downloaded my slip numbers from the CRA website, but when I tried to download my wife's numbers, CRA rejected the request and ended my CRA session. This then meant that TurboTax was left hanging waiting for a CRA response that never came. TurboTax was locked with the screen greyed out and the little green circle turning. I had to use the task manager to close it and I started again. This happened again so I gave up and entered the numbers manually.
So, your software is unable to handle the situation of CRA terminating the tax slips download process.

Not bad, BUT important crash problem
I did both of our taxes and Netfiled them with no problem. Got the 2 confirmations, so all went fine.
At the end of that, there was a question about Turbo Tax logging back into CRA again to see if there was any assessment information available (or at least, that what I think it said.)
So I clicked to go ahead. The screen said that it was contacting CRA, the same way it did before in the problem.
However, this time, Turbo Tax just froze up completely ("not responding").
There was no browser that popped up like before.
I had to END TASK to get out of it.
When I ran TT again, this time, it does not bring me back to the option of checking for the assessment.
THIS IS A MAJOR BUG!!!

Love Turbotax
Really like Turbotax and the EasyStep process is easy to follow. I also like that you can go to any step from icons on left side or go to Forms. Very user friendly.

More Detail Required
The individual (for each province) claims for travel and meals was absent in the 2017 version of Turbo Tax. This information had to be gathered elsewhere.
Also, it's necessary to be able to view the entire input (as on the actual tax form) at any point while filling in the required information. Sometimes it's necessary to review the data already entered to look for possible mistakes or sources of confusion. This would have saved several hours of wasted time.
