Upgrading
I started with free tax Turbo program but was advised to upgrade to standard . I had problems to upgrade ,program gave warning was not a secure site .

Fixed line height problem
So pleased TT has fixed the problem with their software. Bought new laptop last year and TT software would not display properly (line height too compressed) such that forms could not be read/used. Despite trying to trouble shoot with technicians no one could fix the problem. Was not going to buy TT software this year but decided to try once more as have enjoyed it for many years. Was so please this glitch was fixed and now have the great software I was previously accustomed to - tx!

I have never had a problem with TurboTax in the past. This year I have had to restart it a couple of times because it kept coming up with an error message and became hung up. I could do nothing. Finally it worked.

Great Product
I have used TurboTax Standard for many years. I have always used the forms method to do my taxes and find it easy and intuitive to use for the most part. Transferring data from last year's return to the current year is done with the click of a button. This saves a lot of effort not just by transferring personal data but also by transferring RRSP and other carry-forward data. The program always seems to keep up with the CRA as far as Netfiling is concerned so each year it becomes easier to file my return. I occasionally omit a box on tax slips or enter the wrong value so the Auto-fill feature is very helpful.

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY
Have used Turbo Tax for years and have always found it easy to use except this year. Completed our tax returns but could not "net file" on Feb. 26/18; a red circle with a line through it prevented clicking on the radio button. I called to get assistance and while on the phone the person went through my return and my wife's, said the returns were error free and to redo the returns. On Feb. 28th one return was redone and the same issue came up. Called again for assistance and answered numerous questions and then told to wait until March 1/18 when another update would be available and was assured that we would be able to "net file" our returns. Asked this person if there was a "glitch" with TurboTax and while she was reluctant to answer finally said yes.
Bottom line TurboTax is fast and easy but having this glitch in the system there should have been an alert or at least have the people working the phones aware of the issue so the caller doesn't have to wait for a call back or spend a lot of time on the phone with them answering questions, holding, and at the end be advised to use another return and refile.

Very good purchase but still need improvement
They should be more specific with the questions like the contributions for pension plans. they should indicate to check only for those that are not in the T4 or something like that.

No auto fill
In the past the program would load info from previous turbo tax, this year it didn't not ask and I had to fill in all that again, disappointing.

Easy pezy lemon squeezy
I've used this program for years and I love it. Works very simplistically. Mind you I don't know what happened to my last years return but I do like the importing options. You have definitely made the HBP Repayment part a lot simpler and I like that.

Good Program
This program makes my return easy and in a few cases had paid for itself. I hope they keep the future price low as I do not need to use Turbo every year but it is a huge convenience.

Not as good as previous software
Had great difficulty printing returns. Checked printer against other software worked OK. Somehow your print software could not print both sides on command very frustrating in the time that was wasted to get the hard copies I needed.

Caution! -Splitting Income and Donations
I've used TurboTax (and its predecessors) for 17 years. I regretted the 1 year I switched to /tried Ufile.
TurboTax's 'EasyStep' process leads you by the hand in a reassuring manner.
I recently discovered that TurboTax had NOT optimized our taxes for the 3 years prior to 2017, during which pensions were our major source of income. While my income is higher than my wife's, pension income splitting enables us to equalize our income. But TurboTax's 'Pension Income Splitting Optimizer' did not leave us with equal income --not even the same incremental tax rate! Turns out that's because I, as TurboTax advises, claimed all of our significant charitable donations. I had to discover on my own that optimizing our taxes requires splitting our charitable donations. [TurboTax 2017 continues to WARN when splitting donations!]
A minor irritation: Please don't tell me I don't want to be environmentally friendly by signing up for CRA's online notices . . I'd done that years ago!

Stupid Error code on every page
Everytime we clicked continue, an error code would appear saying that a script on the page was failing to load....
It was very annoying and made the whole filing a drag and it took much longer than it normally would.
It is our third year using your software, and it is the first time we encounter this.
We even made the update suggested when the software launched.
This problem should be reviewed so it doesn't happen next year.

Filing my 2017 return.
When I first tried to file, i was unable to do so. CRA was on line and open to receive. I kept getting a red stop light. I went back and started the file over, made no changes and was successful this time to file my 2017 Tax Return.
The reason for the delay was that I had completed my return on Feb.25th, Since I had not shut my computer down on the 25th, Turbo Tax did not recognize the change in the day although it was 10 Am on Feb.26th.
Loved the warning and chance to review and correct.
Did not like the confusing words - Are you disabled?
Should be - Are you claiming the standard disability amount of $8,000.00 or what ever is the amount.

Great but needs a mac version
I've been using turbotax for 5 years. Excellent product and I've never had any issues. It's easy to use and very accurate. I would give it 5 stars if it had a mac version because that is my main computer. As it is now, I have to use an old windows laptop (or submit directly online) which is not my preference.

worst experience with turbo was this year
only reason i gave this software 4,4 and 5 stars is because i've used it for several years and know what to expect. this years was a pain due to a script error that had to be closed on each and every page. sometimes up to ten times. every other year was great and i hope this was an isolated problem

Not as easy as previous years
Program works as previous years - EXCELLENT --- BUT issue updating the program every time you start program it checks for updates ( this is good) BUT it will NOT update - it gets stuck half way and sits there for ever.
Using the help icon on the menu line - select UP date -- this is no better as it gets stuck about 3/4 of the way and sits for ever.
Used google to Turbo web sit / update manual update.-- this works just fine
Never had this update failure in any of the previous years, Have been long term user. PLEASE FIX FOR 2018 TAX year.

Good Purchase
I thought this program was easy to navigate for the most part. I had a bit of trouble when I wanted to make changes like adding a T4A that I had missed. But it was a good experience overall. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
