Problems
The help function does not have a response for 'safety deposit box'. I know that they were dropped a couple of years ago but it would be nice to be reminded of that. The auto-fill function was useless. It asked if you wanted to use it. If you said yes, it said do you have an account. If you said no, the response was 'Don't worry we can handle that later'. Then you were presented with you blank tax form and auto-fill was never again mentioned. I expected that you would help set up an account as soon as I was ready to start entering data but it did not happen. The pension optimizer is difficult to use. If you choose an amount to transfer it does not tell you what the refund/balance due amounts are until about 10 or 12 screens later. If you want to re-adjust the amount it is necessary to go back to the beginning of the review and complete the whole series of screens again. This can easily take 6 or 7 tries to come up with a useful split. Overall I think the program is fine and I have used it for many years but a more convenient optimizer system and auto-fill would certainly be helpful.

UI doesn't recognize HI-Res monitors
The screen of my touch screen laptop has a resolution of 3200x1800. TurboTax did not respect the aspect ratio scaling and showed unreadable fonts, tiny icons and it was nigh impossible to use the receipts or forms entry screens. I finally had to work around this by making use of my multi-monitor setup and having the "primary" monitor be the one with a resolution of 1680x1050 with 100% aspect scaling. Of course this meant I couldn't use the laptop alone to use TurboTax. A quick search shows many others have had this problem. Come on it's 2017, please fix your UI for next year.

Request for improvement
I am married and have investments that are shared with my spouse. Turbo Tax has a nice feature that allows me to allocate the income on some T slips. It would be helpful if that feature was available for all investment related T slips and for the capital gains entry. We have shared interests in Limited Partnerships and receive T5013 slips. Presently, I have to divide the amount in every box to enter the appropriate amount correctly for each of us as the spousal share function is not available for that slip. I also have to do this when any shared investment is sold to correctly allocate the capital gain or loss. This year I spent more time with that particular task than the rest of the returns combined.

Could use better explanations
Overall a very good program to use for preparing taxes and has improved over the years. They could still use better explanations when you click on the help button. I would like to see tax information from Revenue Canada explained rather than scenarios that don't apply to me, then I have to search Revenue Canada tax legislation on the internet to find the answers.

I am dyslexic and the papercopies were overwhelming. With Quick tax and Turbo tax the easy step process leads me along and my wife can easily check the numbers and the many options. I still do misread some of the questions but she sets me straight.

Fill Ins
Contrary to previous years, The automatic fill in of information did not work well. For example the joint pension income section was cumbersome and took many tries and time to make it record or transfer information. I had to go back to 'Easy Steps' to input information because it would not accept the information in the input form.
Mostly the process worked well.

Software Updates
Everything was good except in April when I went in to update turbo tax for software changes it asked me to remove turbo tax and then reinstall it. This was a real problem. And I could not find any telephone support to help walk me through the procedure. So I did not do it, and filed with the older version of the software. I hope it does not cause me problems.

best canadian tax program
The ease of use and the format and layout of TurboTax is much nicer than the competition.
I have more confidence throught the workflow that I haven't missed anything. The charirty contribution optimizer and RRSP optimizer are good features in the Standard package.

Don't search my files
Please change turbo tax to not search all my files after first installed for previous tax returns. It takes too long due to the number of files and is not appreciated from a privacy point of view. An option to disable the search on install would be appreciated.

Very workable product
This program has become easier to use over the last eight years. I like it and i subscribe to it, have not considered another product.
Although my son says the on-line filing system is better. He has been using it for two years. :)

Saved time and money
although my refund was not as high as previous years, it balanced out as I didn't have to have someone else complete my refund for me. This program is relatively easy to use and I will use it again next year.

Not so great - some unclear instructions
Had to call in 3 times for support because I couldn't find a good explanation for a function. I believe the help system isn't that great. Also found a logic problem in one part of the program that will probably confuse a lot of people. It's a AND OR logic situation through which they are providing confusing information/formula. Instead of using OR they have used AND, making it very difficult to decide how to proceed.

TTax Std - EasyStep Help not helpful
Been using Turbo Tax standard for many, many years. When I was laid off and started my own business I switched to an accountant but didn't think the cost was worth it in my situation. I went back to Turbo Tax. I just did my son's taxes. He just finished his first year at university. Had to travel over 300km to the school. Used easy step method but flipped to forms on occasion. Found Help in Easy Step not very helpful. I switched to forms and used help there which gave me better answers.

Good, still room for improvement
Most of the interrogation is straight forwards, but some tools, eg. Pension Sharing and Charitable Donation Sharing are still obscure, particularly the latter, which is unchanged since I first started using TurboTax, when it was still called Quick Tax.

I was surprised that I wasn't given the option of transferring data from last year's returns. Perhaps I should have called and someone could have helped, but I didn't.

Just One Issue
Overall, I find TurboTax Standard to be very thorough and helpful. It is even almost enjoyable to use! It does, however, have one serious problem that has occasionally caused me difficulty, not only this year, but also in previous years.
If, by whatever mechanism, the *.tt16, *.tt15, *.tt14, etc. file has inadvertently had its "read only" attribute set, changes to the file will NOT BE SAVED when a SAVE is requested, yet TurboTax provides the user with NO WARNING that the changes have NOT been saved. I believe that I have mentioned this on at least one previous occasion, but nothing has yet been done to correct the problem.

errors
when program was installed i kept getting "script error"every time i entered a figure,it became very frustrating-unable to get an answer via site or email-finally phoned!i hab to ininstall and reinstall-then ok.this yr. it also wouldn't let me finish with paying what i owe-kind of a frustrating yr. with turbo tax this yr.no problem other yrs!

TurboTax allows splitting dividends with spouse but not capital gains. As a result, capital gains must be entered twice. Once for each spouse.

Good overall, but has some bugs
Great program but Quebec drug insurance plan premiums from 2015 have not been transferred to 2016 Quebec forms (federal was OK). In addition, corresponding 'QMED' worksheet entry links to current 'Schedule K' instead of 'Quebec Carry Forward' form. Intuit phone support found a workaround, but as of today (2017/04/26 i.e. close to two weeks later) the program has not been patched.
