Turbo Tax
I've been using this software for about 10 years for my wife and 2 children. It's relatively easy to use and saves me time and money. I believe it helps me to identify savings that I may not have known about. One improvement I suggest is in the Help function. Reading the questions and answers of other users is really of limited value since the questions are often poorly worded and therefore the answers should be viewed with a critical eye.

Pension splitting ... not so good
Turbotax Basic was not at all helpful in addressing Pension splitting with my wife who is self employed and files a separate paper copy. We had to manually work through the process multiple times with "what if" scenarios before achieving the best, and optimum, solution. Turbotax Basic does not address her self-employed reporting requirements 100% which determines her choice of filing process.

Tree Use
I was not able to use the tree on the left; I was not able to jump from spot to spot on the tree, I had to go in order of the program; not sure if it was just the program I was using.
The program kept saying there was a script error throughout the entire program.

Poor Update - April 18, 2017
I started my return in Feb for planning how much to add to RRSP. Normal TurboTax behaviour as I have had for many years * have recommended in past *.
When I logged in to complete the return April 18, there was an update that I applied. It has a script error (Line 4, Char 2; Automation server can't create object. This required answering yes/no to continue running scripts on this page.... FOR EVERY PAGE ... often multiple times on each page. Navigation was all messed up and not working on the left panel. Needed to use Forms, and or Easy Navigation frequently to move through the process.
It was definitely NOT easy to use. I checked for updates several times but no fixes over the two days to complete my taxes.

Generally good
Step by step process. Generally easy to understand. (there are a few points where I needed to Google what the credit was because the help feature was not helpful). Easy to see how my inputs affect the bottom line. Easy to see where I am in the whole process.

Great Program
I've used this tax program and its direct ancestors since Latin was the primary language of society. It's always worked well for my family's personal tax submissions.
Intuitive, multiple ways to complete, always accurate. Can't ask for much more.
One improvement however would be a way to find words in the forms themselves. Tried to figure out how to submit a claim for clothing/employment allowance but the "help" file didn't identify the line item. Couldn't search the forms themselves to find a reference to clothing, allowance, employment, etc. If not for this draw back, I would have given turbotax a 5 for the overall rating above.
Keep up the good work turbotax.

Good, as usual, but some odd changes
TurboTax worked very well, as it has for many years. The Optimizers were really useful this year. There were a couple of odd changes this year. For one, when you want to open a new return, there is no easy access to the "Transfer from last year" option. You have to go looking for it on the File menu. Why was it moved? Secondly, they disabled the display of Marginal Tax Rate in the Tax Summary. This is a very useful piece of information that is no longer available. I hear that it was included in the early version for 2016, and then disappeared on a subsequent update. Please restore it.

Super Easy for this Senior
As seniors we just need the standard program so I can't comment on the other editions. Super easy - just answer the questions and the program does all the calculations. Queries ? Just press the help button and you get your answer.

Some glitches
I had to uninstall and reinstall TT2016 to repair glitches. All info entered was saved which was a HUGE relief.
Wish the T2125 page options would specify more clearly which to use in different situations. I filled out the wrong form initially and had to re-do it all on the correct form. Be nice if the suffix remained year after year or at least the description of each form.
Overall a great product with useful FAQs to work thru it on my own b4 sending in for review.

Only one glitch
I have used Turbo Tax for a number of years and have found it to be superior to the other one I tried. This is the first time I have had any issue at all with Turbo Tax: On our 2015 returns (spousal), we reported charitable donations to be carried forward to 2016. Upon bringing forward the information from 2015 into our 2016 returns, the carry-forward donations amount was doubled and there is no way to correct it. My solution: deleted the 2016 returns and started over. The 2015 info was not carried forward, so had to enter everything from scratch, but at least it is correct. Still, it's a great program, and I'm sure this will be fixed for next year!

Good value if filing numerous returns. Easy to complete in a few minutes if using form option and having prior experience. It would be nice if they used Canadian date format (yyyy/mm/dd) rather than confusing US format

plus and minus
Filing step is quick, it is a huge improvement over previous years. But the overall use is less friendly, it is cumbersome to go back to add a forgotten receipt or make a correction.

Good product, small issues
Overall a very good product. Easy to use, guides you through the main steps.
Small issues:
Sometimes a minor change will lower your refund but the program doesn't make it clear WHY the refund dropped so you can bump it back up.
Turbotax recommends Plastiq as a payment method to CRA. TT says the rate is 2% when in fact the real payment amount is 2.5%. It doesn't make a large difference on a small payment, but TT should get it right.

There were some changes to how you moved around this year that I didn't like. Took me a while to find the tools I had used in prior years. They were there but you had to turn them on. Still good value for money.

Toolbar, etc. hard to see and read
The Toolbar icons and names are very small and there is no option to make them larger for people, who have eyesight problems. Also, the text size in the TurboTax instructions/Warnings/Tips, etc. is way too small for the same reason. This is definitely a very negative and frustrating feature, which Intuit should be able to correct as soon as possible.

Netfile No work
Not sure why but today I could not get the default netfile to work. Maybe cause they owe me money. MY wife who owes money I sent last week no problem.
Used the manual netfile method successfully.

font, text window size too small
when you open up a window to enter data, such as your t4's, The size of the font and text were way too small on a 15" full HD laptop.
