Generally happy with TT
We use TurboTax every year, and I'm generally happy with it. However, this year, filing for my deceased mom, I really didn't appreciate the prompts referring to me as if it were her (after it was entered that she was dead), and trying to upsell will kits, etc. Not cool.

Make filing taxes bearabe
The software is intuitive and easy to use. I have been using TurboTax and filing my returns electronically for 5 years now. I end up saving a tonne of money over having tax services prepare my return. I like to make a game of it each year. The little number in the upper right corner of the screen is my score. It's amusing to watch the number go from red to green and climb as deductions and expenses are added. Like I said it makes filing taxes tolerable.

have been using TurboTax for over 12 yrs
I have been using TuroTax (previously QuickTax) now for over 12 yrs now. Before Quick Tax, it was CanTax ... only the 2013 software (Tax Year) were there any issues with the installation. A revised "Alternate installer" was issued Apr 2, 14 and that took care of the installation problems.
Program is easy to use. I would recommend Turbox Tax for next year...

easy to use; almost perfected
User friendly for those with limited computer savy, just what I needed. Excellent value, but I have a couple of suggestions for future versions. Would like to see greater depth in the explanations of who should take the deductions when doing joint (spousal) return. I am never sure if I or my spouse should claim items such as medical expenses/child expenses; and if we want to carry forward unnecessary items, how do we ensure we are obtaining the best value.

tax software
Had some trouble iwth a requirement for IE8 (the website said IE7), but apparently the requirement was not required. Not sure why a specific browser is required to show websites...?
Once the helpline staff learned this, everything went pretty well.

I would personally prefer a slightly less expensive software. I also would like less advertising and distracting items on each page.
Even so, the software is user friendly and makes the final stage (after all of the receipts are tallied up) of completing my taxes go by quickly.

Trouble with Net File
I have used this product for years and have been very happy with it until this year. I completed my and my husbands tax returns and e-filed them to Revenue Canada perfectly. Then I completed my brother, and Dad's tax returns and was NOT able to e-file these additional returns even though I have done this in previous years with this program and had purchased the ability to complete 8 returns. I had to print the returns and mail them, which was a major inconvenience for me. In fact I am only now able to deal with my Dad's return 2 months after it was due.
I would like the ability to e-file each of the allotted 8 returns as in previous years or I will look for a more suitable product.

Great Value for Low Income
I use this software because I can't afford an accountant. It's simple, reasonably easy to follow instructions, much better than forms. Which there was a little more online/phone assistance without charging for using the service.

Convenient but with some inconveniences
I have used Turbo Tax for number of years and used electronic format for taxes over 7 years. I always use the same format of doing the taxes, via CD. This year I did it late and continuely had trouble with gliches during making entries and checking them. I had to re-install CD when after months of first installing program and not using it the shortcut when I clicked on it said file was corrupt!!! Had to have my techy son help me clear it all and start over again with downloading. Second problem was during work directly on the file. I had closed it and saved it (at least I believe once I hit the save button on top ribbon it did). Then it wanted to do a update on turbo tax but I responded with 'not yet'. Then I went to find the file and no where under 2013 file could I find it or open it (many things were coming up like asking me how I wanted to read it i.e. PDF??? Nothing opened it. So I thought, ok, I will shut down computer and then start it again. After this, I could hear a lot of work going on in the computer so I thought, hmmm, maybe it required updates before I could open the file??? I went to same location where I found it stored and there now was a tick in red with file name and it actually opened up to all my entries and was saved! Whew! Very confusing and I was fretting about having to re-install again and doing it all over. Never-the-less, I have not completed the filing and had to do a few further adjustments in recognizing or understanding some new steps for netfiling compared to 2012 tax file but all done. Fingers crossed. Never had blips before this year so despite this, I hope that next years filing is not so nail biting and eventful.

Turbo Tax Standard 2013
We have been using this product and its predecessor for 8 years now. It continues to be a worthwhile investment for my family & friends, saving valuable time in the preparation of a total of 7 returns. Even if you are a novice in tax return preparation, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to file their own returns.
I did have a frustrating experience this year, however, that I would like to bring to your attention. When I was completing the review and going through the savings opportunities and errors, I was caught in a loop concerning medical expenses from the personal profile section. None of my family have ever answered 'yes' to this question, but yet the review claims that we did. Even after going back multiple times to enter a 'no' response, the item did not disappear from the review. My only way around it was to enter a 12-month coverage period and the looping stopped.

Distracting ads
I generally find this to be a simple and user friendly package but a little distracting to be facing all the promotional material mid-stream. I would rather see a promotional slide show or video before or after filing.
I find the warnings also confusing and too general.
Makes filing much more pleasant and love the net file.

Solid Product
I used the TurboTax standard product to complete returns for both my wife and I, as well as her mother.
Completion of the returns was pretty straight-forward and didn't take long at at all.
I would recommend this product for sure.

Good apart from filing in Quebec
I love the software but this year it was a lot more complicated because it wouldn't accept my initial in the Quebec filing. Finally removed it. HOpe the government will accept it. Not an improvement ot the program.

frustrating !
I could not enter rrsp data. It took at least half an hour to go through the forms to find th right section. I am still not sure how I got there. I think the rrsp wizard is the problem. Please get rid of it.

Good but past years were better
Help system has a few link issues where the stated text is not where the link takes you. A few times I had to use the Index or Search in order to get to the help I needed. The good news is the Index is well organized and easy to navigate.
The process to enter Ontario Child Activity Credit is totally non-intuitive and hopefully will be better in 2014 version.
Could not find the Federal Worksheet to see how line 410 is calculated. The details are not in Help system either.

Very useful software, with a downside
The Turbotax software is very well-designed, and makes doing your taxes 10 times easier than in the past. However, there is one problem, which, although it doesn't interrupt the functionality too much, is slightly annoying -- none of the images or icons show up on my computer! I don't know why this would be, but the same thing happens every year, no matter what the settings on my computer are. Turbotax should fix this.
