TT2013 Grrrrrreat
Once again, great easy to use software for the non-accountant tax filers. Super-easy one step e-filing > love it.
Would like to see easier steps for updating Notice of Assessment from previous year info.

Excellent for general tax returns, however we have an unusual situation with a foreign lump-sum pension settlement with a 20% tax-hold back that took some effort to resolve.
Otherwise an excellent tool if one follows the steps provided.

Simple yet complex
This is one program that answers most of my questions. However, I must say that some questions can be very confusing yet the error wizard at the end caught these mistakes. THis allowed me to correct them with the explanation what was not given as I was entering these numbers. This had to do with dependant credits.

Well worth the money
Turbo Tax has saved me untold hours of misery and stress. My income has all been on T4, my expenses have been minimal, and yet the process of filing was awful. It's only 10:47 am, and I'm done ..... except for paying.
I only wish there was a 'black' version of Turbotax

Deficencies
1)TTax is more confusing than in previous years!
2)Cannot print confirmation number for records and must write it down for future reference.
3)Review process not as clean and easy with previous years (ie: errors are potential errors and not actual errors, recommended changes are not necessary if already selected etc)
4) When reviewing joint tax returns there is not instructions requiring that you MUST certify info before reviewing your spouses portion of the joint return. The result is you get caught in a loop for your return
portion!!
5) I don`t have as much confidence in Turbo Tax as I did in previous years
6) For some reason my mailing address was not carry forward with my Tax forms but my wife`s was. I did a joint return as I have for the past 10 years plus
It would have been a 5 star on all above categories except for the deficiencies identified

Old Stand-by
I've used Turbo Tax for close to 10 years now. Always seems to do the trick.

this year had a problem
my wife graduated in 2012 & her assessment stated she had NS credits available but that was not easy to put into easy steps info because we had to say she was a student in 2013 which then opened up a page that allowed us to input the credit and nothing for 2013 as she was no longer a student. The info t/r'd ok into forms. What wasn't clear was the fed credits carry over, she had a lot and the software actually inputted the figures without us knowing as it had 2012 info to work from. We read in 2011 booklets (all we had) that once there has been a carry over it can't be carried over again, she is now hopefully going to have a substantial refund. We also had some probs with medical but by playing around with it the best option was to claim all on my forms instead of my wifes (as the software kept suggesting) thus now i'll get a smallish refund instead of owing.

The eligible dependant option is difficult to follow. I had to try a few times to fix error messages.
I found the print/file section more difficult to follow than it was in previous years.

Using Turbo Tax in Canada
I use Turbo Tax for both Canadian and American Tax Returns. Both are good but the American version is much easier when you have investments in firms such as TDAmeritrade and TDWaterhouse. The American version allows you to download all of your capital transactions directly from TDAmeritrade in Turbo Tax. I was not able to download from TDWaterhouse and that made for some work that could be avoided if Turbo Tax Canada updates their software to accommodate these types of transactions.

The Good and Bad
This was the first time I have used TurboTax. It took about as long to fill out the forms as when I did taxes by pen. The big advantage is the pension, medical expense and charitable donation optimizers. The splitting of investment income was not always obvious, but came out okay in the summary.

Grumble
One of my favourite features of the TurboTax program is its ability to import information directly from epost Canada. I was really disappointed that it failed to function properly for my returns this year.

software problem?
