Great Tax Program
Overall a good online tax program. A little confusing at times, but overall, very easy. A 1-800 help number would be fantastic, but the forums were very useful in lieu of this.

worked for me
I have used TurboTax for the last two years and it has been inexpensive and easy to use. More than anything it has been educational. I use the online program and it provides lots of background, asks me for confirmation of input, picks up inconsistencies in my information and has useful tips and links. As a result I am closer to my finances and tax inplication throughout the year. If you do your taxes yourself you tend to get organized to make the task easier in the coming year. Great product.

I have never done my taxes by myself and on my own and I found TurboTax to be easy to use, especially with the step-by-step guide. I definitely recommend it!

Worth your refund
Very appropriate for people who are not very familiar with doing tax returns; good for first time tax filers and easy to understand because of the help features and the explanations of underlined words.

Works for me mostly
Overall, step by step is good. My taxes are really simple so saving vs. paper is mostly in avoiding the post office trip rather than calculating the tax.
Did have trouble downloading the .tax and .pdf files from the site though. Tried turning off anti-virus but didn't help. Logged in with another computer, same issue, then an old laptop was OK. Maybe 32 bit Explorer or FIrefox are OK and 64 bit Explorer is not?

Self-employment errors
I use TurboTax every year, and often have the same problem-- it detects my income from contract or honorarium work as "self-employment income." I always struggle with how to report this income, and it seems to produce a number of "errors" relating to my industry code for self-employment, the address of my self-run business, etc.
I understand that there must be some reason these error messages get doled out. BUT, what frustrates me is that it's incredibly difficult to find where I need to adjust this info-- when it asks for an address, or for an industry code, the error messages do not refer me back to where this error originates, making it really difficult to correct. Sometimes I feel like I have to solve a puzzle in the program just to accurately report my income.
Since a major part of my income is contract and part-time work, I find it increasingly frustrating to use this generally quick and easy software. Too bad.

Vague error and warning messages
Although the program was easy to use, I did not like how the warnings or errors vaguely told me where the problem in my return could be from rather than pointing out specifics that convince me if these were real problems of concern in the first place. As a result, none of these errors or warnings convinced me in buying audit defence.

This was a very useful tool, except that some of the criteria were very badly worded. For example, there were multiple "if" statements: "If your spouse is over 65, you're eligible for an amount. If your income was less than..." This suggests that you can claim the amount without your spouse being over 65. Please change this wording in subsequent versions!

Ease of Use
Some steps could be described better. I had difficulties finding my RRSP - since I am still a student I was not aware I had information for this, until I realised to look at my Assessment from the previous year. I also am still a little confused with how tuition payments carry over to future years...what am I carrying them over for?

Meh
I always use TurboTax because I generally find it makes doing my taxes easier. HOWEVER, every year I encounter some weird glitch that's come from having my last year's return info transferred over, and I sometimes wonder if it's more of a pain than it's worth.

Common Law Student's Descrimination
I like using Turbotax but I dislike the fact I must pay as a student even though I am earning less than $20,000 due to my common-law partners's income. My common-law partner is also a student earning less than $20,000 but combined we make just over $20,000. Were we both filing as single we would not have had to pay. You should perhaps try to take this factor into consideration for common-law students.
Thank you.

easy to get lost
I found this program almost so simplified that it made it difficult to use. There were check boxes that I was trying to find, but had trouble accessing unless I had checked the correct box in the "easy-step navigator". I have used more accountant-style programs in the past and understand my way around the different schedules and line numbers. Not having a path to go to a specific line number or schedule made this process, for me, take much longer than it should have. Perhaps there should be a shortcut menu for people to be able to move from section to section more quickly. Thank you!

Disappinted with on line price
I thought that the online price would allow me to file more than one return like the version purchased in store and the reduced price reflected the savings to turbo tax for not having to box and ship cds tp stores. I was very surprised to be charge for 3 seperate returns which ended up costing more than had I purchased at the store. I do like how easy it is to use. but don't be fooled by the online price it is more money in the end

Frustrating flaws
My husband and I both used turbotax or it's parent companies before we were married. This year we were filing as spouses for the first time. Although turbotax asked for changes in marital status and spouse information, it never gave the option of working on the returns together. That led to a lot of frustration as we needed information from each other in several different areas on the return and every change we made changed those numbers.
I was also frustrated by the lack of instructions for filing a paper return- there was no mention as to what documents we needed to include.

i used turbo tax online. my biggest complaint is there no way to access or edit the forms directly. so, unless you have very simple taxes and no interest in figuring out where the information actually goes when you enter it, this is not for you.

Annoying switch over
I've been using QuickTax for three years and I have to say that the switch this year was quite painful for me. I was unable to upload previous year's data, I had to change my username (may have been my own fault for forgetting and resetting the password). This has been the most frustrating year for me using this software.
